Is She Really Going Out With Him - Joe Jackson

Woke up this morning with this song in my head. It took me quite a while to figure who the artist was; it's been a while. I haven't been myself the last couple of weeks and there hasn't been much music in my head when I wake up. Hopefully it will come back.

I once saw Joe Jackson that the Boulder Theater in Boulder, CO. That was a cool place to watch a show. It would be nice to go back a catch another live show there.

Red Headed Woman - Bruce Springsteen

I woke up at three this morning with this song in my head. I rode the rollers last night and this song was one of the songs that I listened during my workout. This song actually has special meaning to me. I'm surprised it hasn't come up before now.

I admit it; I am quite partial to red headed women. So much so that I married one. In fact, I don't think I would consider anything but a true red head. There is something special about red heads; they've got some extra fire, but it must be respected in order to realize any benefit.

But of course, that's just me. It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

Change The World - Eric Clapton

It's been a LONG time since I've heard this song, but it was in my head this morning so I'm posting it.

I have several Eric Clapton CD's, but the only CD I have that has this song is from the soundtrack to the movie Phenomenon; so that is what I've put as a link on the left side of this post.

After reviewing the lyrics I'm starting to see a pattern over the last few days; it's all about love, unrealized love.
If I could reach the stars,
I'd pull one down for you.
Shine it on my heart,
So you could see the truth.
That this love I have inside,
Is everything it seems.
But for now I find,
It's only in my dreams.

I've selected this video for the lyrics and the nice slideshow.

I've posted this 2nd video that is nice video and includes some footage from the move Phenomenon.

Body And Soul - Etta James

Another song I haven't listened to in a while, but when I woke up this morning there it was in my head.
My heart
Is sad and lonely
For you I sigh
For you dear only
Why haven't you
Seen it?
I'm all for you
Body and soul

This song is off the CD Mystery Lady (Songs of Billie Holiday). I really like most of the songs off this CD, nice songs to listen to on a Sunday morning.

Yes my sweet, For you dear only... I'm all for you Body and Soul.

I'm Going To Miss You - Brian Culberson

I haven't listened to this song in a while, so it was a big surprise when I got out of bed this morning that I had this song in my head. I have always liked this song and it is a great slow dance song. It is one of the few songs that I have rated five stars in my iTunes library.

I decided to look up the lyrics, not at all what I expected. I was quite surprised it is a song about somebody dying.

None the less, I still like the song. For me it is song about the fact that a special person is going to be missed and the singer really hates the circumstances that caused this parting. I know that when I first put this song on a playlist that was my intent.

Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington Jr

This song is an all time favorite of mine. There were many songs going through my mind this morning, but this one stuck.

There is something quite romantic about. Think about it:
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
... You and I.

Truer words were never said. It is so wonderful to have a life partner sharing life and love. There's not much more I can add to that.

My Favorite Things - Al Jarreau

My wife and I just got back from a long weekend in Destin. That is one of my favorite things. Maybe that is why this song was in my head this morning as I was waking up.

We really like this song as well as most of the songs that Al Jarreau has done. There is just something about the song that takes you away to a nice place; maybe it is just a reminder that there are many good things in life that we have experienced.

We once had the privilege to see Al Jarreau live at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. It was a great show, one of the best we have seen.

Soul Man - Blues Brothers

No particular reason this song should have been in my head when I got out of bed this morning. I like listening to the Blues Brothers. My wife, on the other hand does not. I can remember watching them on Saturday Night Live many years ago. It was a great show. At the time, I was living in Charleston, South Carolina. In some of the clubs they would play this song and some of the girls would just dance about. Nice memories.

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Robben Ford

This song was in my head for hours this morning before I got out of bed starting at around 5am. I rode the rollers last night and this song is in the playlist that I listen to while riding. Nice song and not a bad video either.

Joy To The World - Three Dog Night

I don't pick these songs; they pick me.

It has been a long time since I listened to this song. Surprise, surprise, this song is in my iTunes library. It is on the CD The Big Chill soundtrack. I don't remember the movie. I had to look it up; I'm pretty sure I've seen it before. Maybe I should watch it again. I might appreciate it more now.

Anyway, I remember the song from when I was a kid. It was very playful and fun. Good memories.

Wishing On A Star - Maysa

I just never know what song will be in my head when I wake up. I haven't heard this song is quite a while, but low and behold, it was in my head this morning. I think it might be a carry over from yesterday.

My wife and I saw Maysa on the same jazz cruise that we saw Gerald Veasley. Maysa put on a good show. I was able to get some really nice photos too.

I enjoy listening to her and have several of her CD's. I think this CD, Sweet Classic Soul, is my favorite.

On The Fast Track - Gerald Veasley

This isn't exactly the song I woke up to this morning, but will have to do. I woke up with Bread Puddin' in my head this morning. Both songs are on the same CD.

My wife and I saw Gerald Veasley on a Jazz Cruise we took in January of 2007. That was the best. It was amazing to watch this guy play bass. Having a live show every night of the cruise featuring different artist is definitely the way to enjoy live entertainment.

When You Say Nothing At All - Alison Krauss

I'm just as surprised as anyone that this song was in my head when I woke up. It isn't even in my iTunes library; maybe it should be.

The video is nicer than what I've been able to find lately. It is a slide show with lyrics and the audio is pretty good..

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

A Lucky Guy - Rickie Lee Jones

I listened to this song a few days ago. This morning it was in my head. Believe it or not it is a song about heartbreak.

The video isn't so good and isn't sung by RLJ; it's sung by Vanessa Paradis. It is so hard to find good videos of RLJ songs. I believe that the RLJ version is better.

The second video is of a performance by Vanessa. Someday I need to learn how to make my own videos.

Nowhere To Run - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas

I just never know what song will pop into my head when I wake up. I'm not even sure if this is the one, but if it's not it is close. I was able to find this song in my iTunes library off the CD Good Morning Vietnam soundtrack.

The video below is pretty old; so the sound isn't so good. I choose this video in favor of others that weren't videos but had better sound because it's actually a video.
Nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide

It's not love
I'm running from
It's the heartaches
That I know will come

'Cause I know
You're no good for me
But you`ve become
A part of me

Breakin' It Down - Petalpusher

Yesterday I listened to a lot of music and trying to fine lyrics to some of the songs in my iTunes library. This was one of them, so it comes as no surprise that this song would be in my head this morning.

I was first introduced to this song on the Bare Essentials Vol 1 CD. I like this series of CD's as well as other produced by Naked Music. BTW, I wasn't able to find the lyrics, bummer...

As it turns out I blogged about this song almost a year ago.

Waves Of Change - Samantha James

I recently went to California for business. I took an iPod with me to listen to music on the plane. I chose to listen to relaxing music and music that I haven't listened to very much. This is one of the albums that I listened to. This morning this song was in my head. It's nice and I enjoy it.

The first video is the music from the CD. The second video says its from the Kaskade Extended Remix, sounds like it has a bit of a different beat. The third video says it's the ambient mix, at least it has a slide show.

It's a Pity - Tanya Stephens

I've been waking up with this song in my head for some time now. I'm not really sure why. I've been working a lot lately and I'm tired. In that way it's a pity I work so much because then I can't ride my bike and I can feel it in my body that I really need the exercise or I'll just fall over dead. Yeah, I know... sounds like self-pity, doesn't it?

I did a post on this song some time back and there is an excellent video there with lyrics. No need to re-post that video.

Below is a different sort of mix or dub of It's a Pity. Just a different take. I actually found a couple of these mix/dubs. I liked this one the best as far as this style goes.

Below is a video of Tanya doing an acoustic version.

I Just Want to Celebrate - Rare Earth

It's been a while since I last posted. I've really been busy with work; in fact, I still am.

I still wake up with music in my head every morning, but lately it's the same songs, songs that I've already posted about. This morning is a little different, so I thought I would write a post.

Yes, I want to celebrate life, just like the song says. It's great to be alive and I will survive and I will celebrate.

The video may seem a little odd as it is a surfing video. That's ok; it's about the music and it's about celebrating life.

Fallin' - Alicia Keys

I haven't heard this song in a while so it is interesting that it should be playing in my head when I woke up this morning. It's a wonderful song and sung with much felling. But then love is rather intense with so many ups and downs.

I have this song rated as a four in my iTunes library, but it sure comes close to a five, wish there was a way to give it 4.5 stars.

I couldn't spend too much time searching for videos. It's amazing to me that several that I viewed had advertisements in the beginning; I selected one without an advertisement. A nice video with good sound.

Confetti - Vonda Shepard

Yesterday I was listening to a smart playlist I've named Soundtracks 50. It contains 50 random songs from soundtrack CD's which I have many. One of the songs in the playlist is Confetti from the Heart and Soul CD featuring songs from the show Ally McBeal. So really it comes as no surprise that one of the songs I listened to yesterday would be in my head when I woke up this morning. I haven't listened to the Ally McBeal CD's in years.

The video is not a video at all, just the music. Too bad. There are other videos, but not with this song. So, I've included a second video of Searching My Soul which is on a different CD.

Lowdown - Boz Scaggs

I have no Idea why this song was in my head when I woke up this morning. To be honest I didn't really know who the artist was or what the name of the song was. I didn't even know any of the lyrics; I just knew the music.

So I went to my iTunes library and enabled the column browser by artist and then went through the list of artist making educated guesses. Lucky for me it didn't take to long to realize that the artist was Boz Scaggs. Next was finding the song. I got it on my 2nd click. I only have two Boz Scaggs CDs in my library.

My wife and I went to a Boz Scaggs concert once at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. It was a great show. I think the Beau Rivage is the best place to see a show; every seat seems to be a good one.

This video claims to be a jazz remix. It's an interesting twist.

Running Out On Me - Robben Ford

This song is in my rollers playlist. I enjoy listening to it; it has a good beat and rhythm. Not much else to say about. At least not at the moment. I just wanted to post it because that is what I woke up with.
Never a tear across that cheek
No sign of sympathy,
for a man who's feeling weak
Walkin's much to slow,
so your runnin' out on me

I think I get it now. He fell in love, but his girl is leaving. She's not just walking away; she's running.

Red Light Special - TLC

Last night I listened to this song on my iTouch after a rollers workout. One of the features of the iTouch is that you can view the lyrics as you listen to the song if you have saved lyrics in iTunes which I had for this song. It is the first time that I have read the lyrics. Let's just say that I am looking forward to a Red Light Special.
Baby it's yours, All yours
If you want it tonight
I'll give you the red light special
All through the night
Baby it's yours, All yours
If you want it tonight
Just come through my door
Take off my clothes
And turn on the red light
The video is labeled as official. I don't know that it is for a fact, but it is a nice video.

Run-Around - Blues Traveler

You just never know what is going to pop into my head when I wake up in the morning. Interesting... the lyrics that is.

Once upon a midnight dreary
I woke with something in my head
I couldn't escape the memory
Of a phone call and of what you said
Like a game show contestant with a parting gift
I could not believe my eyes
When I saw through the voice of a trusted friend
Who needs to humor me and tell me lies
Yeah humor me and tell me lies
And I'll lie too and say I don't mind
And as we seek so shall we find
And when you're feeling open I'll still be here
But not without a certain degree of fear
Of what will be with you and me
I still can see things hopefully

Telegraph Road - Dire Straits

Woke up this morning with a bunch of Dire Straits songs running through my head. It was as if they were all playing at the same time. Finally Telegraph Road came to the top.

I have always liked Dire Straits. I'm not sure that I have ever listened to the album Alchemy all the way through until the other day. Really quite a nice album.

The videos below are in two parts. There is a third video that is just a guitar solo. Really nice song. Enjoy.

Part I

Part II

This video is a nice guitar solo.

Surrender - Petalpusher

I went through a bunch of music last night rating songs. The category was what I call Lounge Music. So it comes as no surprise that I would wake up with one of those songs in my head. This song is on the Nude Dimensions: Vol 1 CD. I really like the beat the vocals are mesmerizing to me; I have this song rated at four stars. I like this kind of music, especially at night. It is up-beat and gets the body moving.

As far as the video goes, there is no actual video, not even album art. But, I include it so that if you are interested you can at least listen to the song. Someday I hope I can figure out how to make my own videos for those times that I can't find a good one to post, but then I would also need the time to do so.

Stormtrooper - Pepper

I haven't heard this song in a while; so don't know why it was in my head this morning as I rolled out of bed. I got this song and 2 others off this album from my son. I kind of like what I'm hearing. Seems kind of like Raggae to me.

I have often thought about getting the CD and maybe some others by Pepper.

I think I actually used this song once for the music to a slideshow that I put together of a bunch of climbing photos when my son and I use to climb. Worked out pretty good.

I had a hard time finding a good video. I finally settled for the one below just for the audio; really not a video at all.

Ride - Boney James

Nice relaxing song to wake up to. No reason except maybe I had a good relaxing sleep and feel a bit more at peace with the world this morning. I've enjoyed the CD. So much so that I've included three of the tracks (including this one) on a special playlist that I created for my wife a few years ago.

The video is just the sound track with the album cover.

Enjoy.

The Thrill Is Gone - BB King & Gary Moore

I came across this video today. Really great song and video. Enjoy!

Angel Of Harlem - U2

Another song off the Rattle & Hum album. Not sure why this song came to mind, but then I rarely do.

Here is a live video.

Here is another.

Tell Me All About It - Natalie Cole

This song came to the top of my list this morning as I got out of bed. A really nice song to have going through my head as I get out of bed on a Sunday morning. The song and her voice just makes me melt. How could any one not tell her all about it. There are some advantages to holding out for a little bit, but in the end, you are going to tell her all about it.
Here is a live video.

Here is a remix that is more dance oriented; pretty nice remix if you ask me, but no video.

Another shorter version of the above that they are calling a Chicago version.

I'd Like To Get To Know You - Spanky and Our Gang

Not what I was expecting at all this morning when I finally got out of bed.  Interesting what songs run through my head.

Desire - U2

Had this song in my head all day. I wonder what's on my mind? It's not Las Vegas or gambling. I'm surprised I couldn't find any better videos for this song.

Yes, desire. It is something that I think about quite often and something that I think is quite important. Like spouses having desire for one another. And then there is the problem/question of some one having desire for some one else. It is something felt and plays on the mind; it manifest itself over time; it isn't something that just happens. Sure, sometimes things just happen, but when there is desire involved it didn't just happen; it was wanted; it was planned; it was desired.   For me, I really make a distinction about desire, almost obsessively.

I Like Big Butts - Sir Mix-A-Lot

I debated whether to post this or not. I mean, who admits to listening to this song? I figured making a post was the only way to get this song out of my head. I admit, there are times when I like to listen to this song. After all, butts are part of the total package and some butts are truly beautiful. I sure wonder how some women can shake theirs so violently? It's interesting. But what is more interesting is the elegance what some women display when they walk. It seems to take just the right size and roundness which makes such a sensual display from behind. Truly beautiful I say. But, sad to say, some women got it and some women don't. Thankfully my wife's got it. BTW, she doesn't like this song.

The below video says it's official. Who knows?

Another song that my wife doesn't really like, The Thong Song by Sisqo. I figured I may as well get these songs out of the way. Here's the video.

Sierra Nevada - Chuck Loeb

This isn't really the song I woke up with, but it will have to do. It is off the same CD. I woke up with As Is this morning which is sort of a similar song.

I believe my wife and I saw Chuck Loeb live at a jazz festival in Destin, FL, around 2002, but it could have been later. Nice show and nice music, especially if you like smooth jazz which we do.

I've included a video for your listening pleasure; it's just audio.

Girl From Ipanema - Stan Getz/Astrud Gilberto

This song was a big surprise to be in my head at 5:30 this morning. It's a timeless song; a song that puts a smile on one's face; a song that is comforting. Ah... the girl from Ipanema.

Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes - ah

When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes goes - ooh

(Ooh) But I watch her so sadly
How can I tell her I love her
Yes I would give my heart gladly
But each day, when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead, not at me

Tall, (and) tan, (and) young, (and) lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, I smile - but she doesn't see (doesn't see)
(She just doesn't see, she never sees me...)

Just a slide show, but this is the version in my music library.

A performance video.

Another video

How about a Fly Me To The Moon video for an extra treat?

Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

This song has been in my head for days. It's another song off the playlist I like to ride rollers to. I always thought this song was about a fast car and going somewhere; I never really paid much attention to the lyrics; I just knew I liked the song.

The lyrics are actually kind of sad telling a story about wanting to go somewhere and be some one with the person you love. It doesn't look like it quite works out that way. But, honestly, how many people really end up later in life where they thought they would. I know I haven't, but I keep hoping.

She's Got Issues - Offspring

When I first woke up this morning there wasn't much activity at all; I had slept quite soundly. Slowly this song, She's Got Issues came into my mind. It is a carry over from my rollers session.

I think it is kind of a cool song and nice to ride rollers to. After listening to this song some more I think I might have to listen to some more songs by Offspring.

The video is not what I expected for this song, but it is a video and the audio is of a good quality.

American Girl - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

I rode the rollers yesterday evening; so a song from the playlist was bound to be in my mind this morning. I woke to American Girl in my head. Good beat, good rhythm. The video comes from the days of Midnight Special, a show we used to watch that come on at midnight. I don't remember if it was Friday or Saturday nights, but it was a must watch show for us kids.

Hawkmoon 269 - U2

Woke up with this song in my head. I'm really not a U2 fan, but the Rattle & Hum album is one of my all time favorites. I was first turned on to this album by one of my cousins many years ago.

I like to ride my bike to this song; it has such a good beat. In fact, the whole album is good to ride the bike to.

I was reviewing the lyrics this morning; not quite what I was expecting. It's kind of like an addiction; this need of your love. I wish I understood the origin of the lyrics. Non the less, I like the song and I like the album, great music.

The video below is a slideshow someone put together; not bad.

Kiss On My List - Hall & Oats

I nice song to have on the brain when I wake up in the morning. I wonder why this song is not in my music library.

New York Afternoon - Rare Silk

Back in the early 80's I lived in Boulder, Colorado. During my time there I had the pleasure of seeing Rare Silk several times: a couple of times at the Boulder Theater and once at the Blue Note. Their harmony is nothing less than amazing.

The other morning while in Atlanta I played this song from my iTunes for my wife. It is good music to wake up to; at least I think so. For a couple of days afterward this song was in my head, so I thought I should write a short post about it.

This song is found on the New Weave album. This album is very hard to find and I no longer have one in my possession; my album disappeared in a house fire. Some day I hope to find a good CD of this album.

The below video is old and the sound quality isn't very good, but it is the only video I could find for a live performance of this song.

This video isn't really a video, but the audio is good so that you can better hear the music.

Worried Life Blues - Robben Ford

Great blues song. I woke up with this in my head this morning. This song is on one of my playlist that I like to ride rollers to.

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Breakdown - Tom Petty

This is the song I woke up with this morning. Not too sure why (I never do). It is on my playlist that I like to ride my bike to when riding the rollers. Maybe that is why it is stuck in my head somewhere.

Love Her With a Feeling

I woke up with several songs on my head this morning. The one that came to the top was Love Her With a Feeling as done by Taj Mahal. Well I couldn't find that on YouTube. I did find a version performed by Eric Clapton. I guess that will do. Eric Clapton does a great job, but I do like the version by Taj Mahal that I listen to when I ride my bicycle on the rollers.

Yes, you got to love her with a feeling. But guess what ladies, you too got to love him with a feeling, or someone else will; it works both ways.

Another Taj Mahal song that was on my mind was Ain't Nobody's Business. I found this video that was put together to an old silent movie. Interesting, but not quite the version I listen to.

Now this is the version of that song I had in mind. Not really a video, just music.

Chuck E's In Love - Rickie Lee Jones

I have had this song in my head for a while. I recently bought the CD; I use to have the album when it first came out, but it was lost in a house fire. I remember watching Rickie Lee Jones on Saturday Night Live perform this song. The next day it was all over the radio. She has a good website and post lyrics to most of her albums. Recently I listened to this album on the long plane flight back home from WA state. This song is always so refreshing.

I now have most of Rickie Lee Jones' CD's, but this is my favorite. I sure would like to see her live in concert; maybe one of these days I will get the chance.

Rainy Day

It's a rainy day (2nd day in a row). Lord knows we need the rain. But I think someone around here has been singing the below song, I Wish It Would Rain. They got their wish.

I should have known yesterday after my bike ride in the rain, and I wonder if in the back of my mind there was this song, Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again.

But the rain also brought to my mind the below song, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head. The below video is from a sceen from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, one of my all time favorite movies.

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson

I know, I'm just as surprised as anyone, but this is what I woke up with when my alarm went off at 5:30am. I don't care what anyone says, Michael Jackson had some good songs.

So why in the world would this song pop in my head. Well, I've been going through everyone's CD's here at the house and I found this one. I've been trying to update and expand my music library. It seemed like a good idea to add this one. I had gone through rated each song so I guess this one was still in my memory floating around in my head. It just so happened to be at the top when I woke up.

Eye In The Sky - Alan Parsons Project

I've woken up with the song in my head the last two days. Enjoy.

I stumbled across this song in a 2 CD set titled Magic Moments about a week ago. I had completely forgotten about the Alan Parsons Project. I use to listen to them when I was dating my wife over 25 years ago. It was always nice music. It's been very refreshing to listen to them again.

Eric Clapton - Can't Stand It

Been another long break between posts. Things are still very stressful, but I do feel the music starting to come back, which is a good thing. It's just that usually the music is jumbled up inside my head. This morning was different.

No particular reason that I know of for this song being in my head, except that I did listen to it not too long ago with a group of used CDs that I purchased.

Pride - Syntax

Ok, it's been a little while since I posted; the music just hasn't been there in my head or if it is then it is song I've already posted about. Not much music in my head these days, just stress.

So what's up with this song. I first heard this song from the Nip/Tuck Soundtrack. Do you remember the TV show? We use to watch it every week to see what those crazy people were up to next. We always hoped the characters would find happiness, but they never did. Anyway... I like this song. It has a good beat and I like most of the songs on the CD. The video leaves something to be desired, but at least you can hear the song.

(Theme from) Valley of the Dolls - Dionne Warwick

I don't know why I wake up with certain songs in my head. I haven't heard this song in a long time. All of a sudden I wake up with it in my head. Such a touching song. I will have to make a point to watch the movie now.

Cuts Both Ways - Gloria Estefan

I had lots of songs in my head this morning. When the alarm went off this is the one that was there. The lyrics speak for themselves.

Haven't Got Time For The Pain - Carly Simon

I haven't been waking up with music in my head lately. I'm not really sure why except that I have a lot on my mind. But, today I do have a song in my head and this is it. Haven't Got Time For The Pain... Amen to that. I was curious to see what kind of videos I would find. I thought there would be a ton, but there were not very many. Oh well, I suppose that is good as maybe it means there aren't too many heart-broken people out there.

Right Thing To Do - Carly Simon

Loving you is the right thing to do. It's more than that. Loving you is what I want to do. Loving you is very much the essence of my being. You are such a part of me. My life would be so empty without you.

Yes, this is an old song. Picked this up from a used CD. I have enjoyed listening to the old songs from this CD.

Still Got The Blues (for you) - Gary Moore

I learned yesterday morning while in Atlanta that Gary Moore died Sunday from an apparent heart attack while vacationing with his girlfriend in Costa del Sol, Spain. He was 58. I was introduced to his music from a local guitarist with the song Still Got The Blues (for you). I have always liked that song and it really moves me. When I first saw my friend play it I swear he had tears in his eyes. I found it sad news that Gary Moore died at what I consider a relatively young age. May he rest in peace and his music endure.

Walk & Don't Look Back - Peter Tosh/Mick Jagger

Yesterday I listened to a used CD I had bought, Inna Reggae Stylle. The CD has several cover songs that are done in a Reggae style. I really liked how some of the songs were done. Of course there are others that I didn't care too much for, but that had more to do with the original song than the Reggae style. This song was nice and I woke up with it in my head this morning, and now for the chorus line
If you just put your hand in mine
We're gonna leave all our troubles behind
Gonna walk and don't look back
Gonna walk and don't look back

BTW, this CD is pretty hard to find. The video isn't too bad either. Enjoy.

Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John

As usual, I have no idea why this song was in my head this morning. I've just been feeling a bit beat down and solemn and alone. This one line seems to say it,

But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Here's to hoping the winter will be over soon and brighter times ahead.

Sunday Kind Of Love - Etta James

I really like this song. It pretty much says what we all want to have and with such emotion. Anything less just isn't enough. Sundays can be special, relaxing and intimate and give one that feeling of a lasting relationship. Anything less and I'm just not interested. Lucky for me I'm married and very much in love; so I've got that "Sunday Kind of Love".

You Don't Know Me - Ray Charles

Yesterday I heard a Ray Charles song on the XM radio, but this wasn't the song; the song I heard was Them That Got. I'm not sure why I woke up with this song in my head because the people I love do know me; at least I think they do. Both songs can be found on the Visionary Soul CD. I couldn't find a video of Them That Got that features Ray Charles, so I only have videos of You Don't Know Me.

The first video is an old live one of Ray. The second video is a nice slideshow featuring Ray with Diana Krall.

24 Hours At A Time - Marshall Tucker Band

Yeah, I've got Marshall Tucker on the brain tonight. There are so many songs. Let's start with 24 Hours At A Time. Really nice song with Charilie Daniels playing fiddle, and how about this line,
But woman you're always on my mind
Twenty-four hours at a time
So my woman I'm hoping you feel the
Same Way
Yes, a woman can occupy a man's brain 24 hours at a time for days on end. This is really a great song. Why can't they make like this anymore?

It was hard finding a video for this song. I picked one that had good sound instead of others that showed a live performance. I find it interesting that the album art used to be so cool.

I Can't Quit Her - Blood, Sweat & Tears

Two mornings in a row I have woke up with this song in my head. I figured I should post it so maybe I can move on to something other than Blood, Sweat & Tears. Maybe there's a message there for me. The Youtube video isn't anything special, just the album cover with the music playing. I've also posted some partial lyrics of the chorus.
I can't quit her
She got her hand on me
She got a hold on my soul
I can't quit her

Miss Halfway - Anya Marina

This song popped into my head shortly after waking up. I'm glad it was not a Blood, Sweat & Tears song which has been in my head too long. I first came across this song on the Grey's Anatomy Vol.2 Soundtrack and have enjoyed it. It is disappointing to me that they stopped making Grey's Anatomy soundtracks after vol.3. I don't really know why that is other than they must have a fat contract with iTunes now which prohibits the compiling of additional volumes. Does anyone know? I for one would have kept on buying CD's, but I'm not going to iTunes to get my Grey's Anatomy music fix.

I will say that I think I might need to get some CD's with more Anya Marina. She has a beautiful voice and I like her playing.

There are a few videos available on YouTube. This one is rather plain, only a picture that I don't relate to, but the sound is good; this video is definitely for the music and the music only.

For my wife on our 25th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 25th wedding anniversary. To me it is quite significant, sort of a milestone. My wife and I have spent over half our lives together. In my mind it is like we have always been together and always will. It is a really a very good feeling. I can think of no one I'd rather be with.

I have had Blood, Sweat & Tears on the brain the last few days as you may have noticed from the previous two posts. Today is no exception. In recognition of our anniversary today's song is You've Make Me So Very Happy which can be found on the Blood, Sweat & Tears Greatest Hits CD.

Last night this other song popped into my head, You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker. I was having trouble remembering who the artist was, but I found it this morning. A beautiful song for a beautiful woman. It amazes me that while I get older my wife just gets more beautiful; I am blessed. She is truly the most beautiful woman in the world. It was difficult deciding on a video. I finally decided on this one. Enjoy.

God Bless The Child - Blood Sweat & Tears

I've had a lot of Blood Sweat & Tears songs in my head the last few days. This song has been in my head since 4:00 am this morning. I've always enjoyed listening to this song. But, today I'm wondering what it really means. Look at these lyrics:
And rich relations may give you, a crust of bread and such
You can help yourself, but don't take to much
Mama may have, and papa may have
God bless the child that's got his own,
That's got his own

What is it that Mama & Papa may have? And, what exactly is got his own? What is own? I don't know, but I sure am wondering.

Another song that goes along with this theme, at least the child theme, is And When I Die. I thought that I would include a video of that as well since I'm on the Blood Sweat & Tears thing today.

The first video is not the study version of the song and the audio could be a little stronger, but it's a nice version, a little more jazzy.

I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know - Blood Sweat & Tears

This is a nice song to wake up to although it doesn't get my body moving. I didn't think much about it at first but then it seemed very appropriate because my wife and I are about to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I guess it's not too unusual for a person to feel that the object of their desire doesn't know just how much they are truly loved.

I recently bought a group of used CD's to see what kind of value there was. This CD was one of them and is probably the reason I had this song in my head to start with. I'm glad I bought the CD as it has a lot of nice songs on it, but that probably dates me a bit.

To my wife...I Love You!

I've decided to include a few YouTube videos for this song. The first is a live performance. It is actually pretty good considering the time. The 2nd video has a good sound quality and sounds like the album version, and the slideshow is pretty good too. The 3rd is a Gary Moore cover, a slightly different interpretation. Of course I don't think anything could beat the original.

Erotic Lounge 5 - Secret Affairs

I have almost every CD in the Erotic Lounge series. Most of the CD's make good background music. Each album in the series features two CD's. CD 1 is labeled Soft and Lazy and CD 2 is labeled Quick and Dirty. Erotic Lounge 5 is my favorite album in the series; it is good listening with good beat and rhythm. I have included a few Youtube videos for examples. The first, Fall In The Water is more of a relaxing song. The second, Nube De Agua is more representative of the tracks on the album. The third, Midnight is quite mesmerizing.

Sweeter Love - Blue Six

It's been a little while since I last posted. I still wake up with songs in my head, but lately they disappear or all the songs just mix together and I get lost. This morning was really no exception. I didn't know the name of the song and I didn't know which CD it was off of. I ended up selecting this song by Blue Six. When my son was away at college and he would come home this song would always be playing in the car when I picked him up from the airport. At first it was just a coincidence, but then I made sure of it. Hearing this song would make sure he was in a good mood. I like the song and the CD, nice upbeat music and a good way to start the day. The video is a slideshow with some nice photos of exotic locations. Sure would be nice to visit some of those places. Enjoy.

My Generation - The Who

I watched a movie the other night, Pirate Radio. It was a cute movie about rock radio in the UK during the 60's. I enjoyed the movie and recommend it. This song has been in my head all night and morning. I didn't know this, but apparently all the UK had for radio was the BBC. The BBC only played rock music for 2 hours a week. In order for people to get any more rock music there was pirate radio which played rock around the clock. I remember there being lots of rock radio stations here in the USA and that was during the days of AM radio. I also remember listening to Beaker Street which was a radio program airing late at night from KAAY Little Rock known as The Rock of the South. It would only come in late at night and it had to be a clear night at that. They always played the best rock.

Got To Have You Be My Man - Rory Block

I've been sick for the last week so there hasn't been much music in my head. The other day I had this song in my head and it was there again this morning. I couldn't find any YouTube videos of her doing this particular song.

I once saw Rory Block live when I was living in Boulder, CO. It was a good show and I have bought several of her CD's over the years. She is a great guitar player playing mainly delta blues and I think her song writing is creative. It's not something I like to listen to all the time. That being said, the other day I listened to almost everyone one of the tracks that I have of her in my music library. Give her a try.
For your video pleasure I have included the video below of Rory performing Crossroad Blues for a sample of delta blues.
